Why girl child education matters

STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. For generations, girls have been steered away from these fields by stereotypes, never by ability. Today, women make up only about 35 percent of STEM students in higher education worldwide, and just 28 percent of engineering graduates.

Yet the world runs on what these fields create. The products, buildings, software, films and medicines we all use are imagined and built in STEAM. When women are missing from those teams, half of humanity is missing from the decisions that shape everyday life.

That is why we mentor, train and inspire girls across West Africa to enter STEAM with confidence. When a girl learns that she can build the future, she builds it for everyone.
